Former US President Vs. Blood-suckers!
Historical figure – US President Abraham Lincoln, battles it out in an epic John Woo style, dual-handed axe wielding vampire slayer. Oh, and not forgetting to free the slaves while he’s at it.
It’s interesting. Throw in a boring historical figure. Mix it with a few vampires. Sprinkle some plot, and hey, we’ve got a mash-up. Whether it’d be a hit or a flop? We’ll never know till it hits the big screen.
Now the first teaser has quietly arrived and it succeeds in promoting the filmmakers (producer Tim Burton; director Timur Bekmambetov) first and foremost and using the last remaining seconds to plaster the names of the stars (Benjamin Walker, Dominic Cooper, Henry Sturgess, Anthony Mackie and Mary Elizabeth Winstead).
Using a classic Johnny Cash tune, “When The Man Comes Around,” to get you in the mood, the remaining 70 seconds is a full-on smorgasbord of visual delights, the biggest highlight being a race across the top of a train over a collapsing bridge with fire underneath.
The Good: Action scenes of Abe Lincoln’s axe slashing skills against vampires.
The Bad: The plot-line. Don’t expect too much.
The Ugly: Ugh. Another vampire movie. Need we say more?
